Filming a Spring Wedding at The Victoria
Not every wedding needs rolling countryside, sprawling gardens, or a grand country house. Some weddings feel most at home surrounded by the energy, character, and authenticity of a city.
Evie & Matt’s May 2026 wedding at The Victoria in Sheffield was exactly that.
Set right in the heart of Sheffield city centre, their day had a wonderfully relaxed feel, with the industrial character of the venue providing a backdrop that felt completely authentic to the city. It was a wedding full of personality, where nothing felt overly polished or forced.
One of the things that made Evie & Matt’s wedding so enjoyable to film was the location.
Being right in Sheffield city centre meant that the city became part of the wedding itself. The streets, buildings, architecture, and urban surroundings gave the day a completely different feel to a countryside wedding.
There is something brilliant about having a city as your backdrop. You get texture, movement, character, and a sense that the wedding is happening somewhere real and lived in.
For portraits and cinematic shots, Sheffield provided plenty of opportunities to step outside the venue and use the city around us. The contrast between the wedding itself and the urban surroundings created some really natural and distinctive moments.
Industrial, Urban & Real
The industrial character of The Victoria also gave the wedding film its own visual identity.
Exposed textures, urban surroundings, and the character of the building created a backdrop that felt very different from the typical wedding venue. There was no need to manufacture a cinematic setting because the venue already had so much character of its own.
This is something I love about filming weddings in venues like The Victoria. The imperfections and real details are part of what makes the footage interesting.
Rather than trying to make everything look perfect, I want to capture what is actually there and use it to tell the story of the day.
